Our Savior's Mountain Church, commonly known as the Wang Church or the Wang Temple - an evangelical parish church in Karpacz in the Giant Mountains, moved in 1842 from the town of Vang, on the lake of the same name in Norway. The church was built of pine logs in the town of Vang in southern Norway, at the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. It was built as one of about a thousand (several dozen survived) Norwegian stave (pillar) churches - stavkirke. It is considered the oldest wooden church in Poland. In the nineteenth century, the temple became too small for the needs of the local population, who wanted to build a new church had to take out a loan to cover construction costs. The church was badly damaged, but was fit for sale for demolition and rebuilding elsewhere. At that time, the Norwegian painter Jan Krystian Dahl, who was in Dresden, prompted the Prussian king Frederick William IV to buy it for the Berlin museum. In 1841, the demolished temple was transported first to Szczecin, and then to Berlin, but the friend of the countess Frederick von Reden from Bukowiec convinced him to transport her to Silesia. The argument was that the commune to which Karpacz Górny, Borowice, Wilcza Poręba and Budniki belonged did not have a church and was occasionally served by clergy from Kowary or Miłków. The exact location was determined by the director of the management of the Schaffgotsch family from Tyszów, calculating the shortest time of arrival from individual towns. The scenery in which the church was to be built was also taken into account [1]. The temple was first transported by the Oder river to Malczyce, then by land to Karpacz Górny (then German Brückenberg - Mostowa Góra). A large part of the original church elements were unfit for use. The construction manager wrote in April 1844 that only one-fifteen of its fragments were transported from Norway. Missing parts were made during construction based on drawings. In the reconstructed church, cloisters and a tower were built and windows in cloisters and internal walls were made, which the original church did not have. Four wooden columns and richly carved portals are placed in the middle of the church. Among the later elements, a richly decorated crucifix carved in one oak trunk by Jakub of Janowice in 1846 deserves attention [1]. On July 28, 1844, the Wang Temple became and remains the church of the local Evangelical parish. It is a tourist attraction of Karpacz. The structure of the church is made without the use of nails, all connections were made using wooden carpentry joints. The interior of the temple is decorated with original decorations and sculptures. The building's shape during conservation works, in accordance with nineteenth-century conservation trends, has undergone significant expansion. A high stone belfry was added, which protects the wooden temple from the wind from Śnieżka. In 1963-1965 conservation works were carried out. Painting of wooden elements was renewed. The slate roofing was replaced with shingle cut according to Norwegian designs. Electrical installation and heating were carried out. At the church cemetery, both faithful from the local parish (e.g. Henryk Tomaszewski) and their priests were buried, as well as people who died in the mountains or died in them (e.g. Julianne Caroline Korber - the owner of Riesenbaude, died November 22, 1884 and was only buried 6 days later).
