In 1096, Brzetysław II built a stronghold here, which after being captured by Bolesław Krzywousty was abandoned. This stronghold was located near the monastery church erected at the beginning of the 14th century, near the Nysa Kłodzka river flowing that way. According to the chronicle of the Cistercian monastery from 1592 in Kamieniec, fragments of the walls were found during the construction of the church. In 1838, the owner of the Kamieniec property became the Dutch Princess Marianna Orańska, who in the same year commissioned the design of the future residence to Karl Friedrich Schinkl, then one of the most outstanding architects. On 15 October, the cornerstone was laid on the hill (called Grodowy Hill). Construction work, due to Schinkel's health, was supervised by a young architect, Ferdinand Martius. In 1848 the work was interrupted due to the divorce of the duchess with Albrecht Hohenzollern, the Prussian prince. It was not resumed until 1853. The terrace and garden premises were designed in 1858 by Peter Joseph Lenné, the general director of the Prussian Gardens. A year later, construction of terraces leading to the palace began. May 8, 1872 is considered the date of completion of works on the construction of the palace and around it. That day, on the north-eastern side of the palace, the Nike monument was unveiled, set on an eleven-meter column. In 1873, on the occasion of the wedding of his son Albrecht, Marianna handed him over the entire Silesian-Kłodzko estate, including the palace. During World War II, the Germans organized a transitional magazine here for works of art brought from all over Silesia. For example, collections and archives from Wrocław were located in the palace, in the riding school, and in the nearby church and parish buildings. After 1945, the palace equipment was taken away or devastated, in February 1946 the entire complex burned down, probably set on fire by Soviet soldiers. Some looted marbles decorate the Congress Hall at the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. In 1984 the palace was rented to a private entrepreneur, Włodzimierz Sobiech. The building was reconstructed from the end of the 1980s until the death of Mr Sobiech in August 2010. In August 2012, after the proceedings after the deceased tenant were completed, the palace and adjacent lands became again the property of the commune, which began renovating the building. From May 1, 2013, the palace was again made available to visitors.
