Four ponds at the foot of Wielka Kopa (871 m a.s.l.) in Rudawy Janowickie, formed at the site of excavations of former German mines, the largest and oldest of which (from 1785), located in the Purple Lake, was called Hoffnung. Other mines were called: Neues Glück (1793 - Blue Lake area) and Gustav Grube (1796 - Zielona Staw area). Pyrite was mined in the mines in the years 1785-1925, converted into sulfuric acid in Płoszów. The joints are at different heights. In addition to pyrite, there are also pyrotin, chalcopyrite, native copper, sphalerite, galena, boulangerite, jamesonite, bournonite, chalcocite, tetrahedrite, limonite, siderite and from rock-forming minerals: calcite, dolomite, vesuvite, zeite, pistachite, talc, titanium . The color of the water in the remaining lakes is determined by copper compounds, not sulfur. The water in them is definitely cleaner, odorless, sometimes it is colorless. The green tourist trail runs through the area adjacent to the lakes, the green tourist trail from Wieściszowice to Wielka Kopa and the blue marked bicycle route.
