The castle is located on a basalt hill above the village of Świecie. It was probably built in the fourteenth century on the orders of the prince Bernard Świdnica-Jawor. He was then supposed to protect the trail running from Łużyce to Lubań and Jelenia Góra. He was one of the strongholds District of Kwisa. It lost its military significance when Silesia was incorporated into the Czech Republic. After a fire in 1527, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. Another fire in the first years of the 18th century forced the hosts to undertake construction works for the second time - in addition to the reconstruction of the destroyed elements, they then expanded the existing complex with a baroque palace located in the eastern part of the complex. The abandoned castle, after a subsequent fire in 1827, became a ruin. The ruins of the stronghold "came to life" for a while in the interwar period, when an inn and an inn were organized in its eastern part. After 1945, the walls were not secured and since then they undergo permanent decapitalization. It is likely that the castle is currently under reconstruction.
