The castle is located on a basalt hill above the village of Świecie. It was probably built in the fourteenth century on the orders of the prince Bernard Świdnica-Jawor. He was then supposed to protect the trail running from Łużyce to Lubań and Jelenia Góra. He was one of the strongholds District of Kwisa. It lost its military significance when Silesia was incorporated into the Czech Republic. After a fire in 1527, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style.
