The castle is surrounded by moats, stone bridges lead to the island, and the whole is guarded by several huge towers. The building resembles a cluster of several separate buildings of different heights, arranged in a U-shape. The building is also surrounded by a stone wall about 1150 meters long. Baroque statues of saints stand in front of the gate, and next to the court buildings, including a baroque forge. At the end of the 15th century, the castle was expanded by von Stoschowie, probably related to Wit Stwosz. During the Renaissance, the fortification was reinforced with bastions and a second, external moat filled with water fed from the Oława tributaries, hence the name of the stronghold "a castle on the water". The building survived the hardest times during the 30-year war. Then for some time the property belonged to the Cistercians from Henryków, in 1812 it became the property of the King of Prussia. Today, Witostowice is a private headquarters, however, on the island's chapel there are regular masses on Sundays. Old beautiful oaks grow around the castle.
