The reserve was established in 1954 for the protection of interesting and rare species of protected plants and natural plant communities, mainly for the preservation and protection of the natural raised bog with dwarf birch (a plant characteristic of the Siberian Tundra). It covers an area of ​​about 156 ha. From unique fauna specimens you can see endemic arachnids, a black stork and a very rare butterfly specimen - black lemonade. A green tourist trail leads through the center of the reserve, leading from Zieleńce to Polanica-Zdrój, along which there is a nature path showing the peat bog nature on boards, and among others peat formation process. In 2007, a wooden lookout tower was built.
