The first lookout tower in Wielka Sowa was founded on the initiative of the Sowiogórski Society in Dzierżoniów. The construction project was prepared by the bricklayer and carpenter Heuber from Walim. On September 20, 1885, the cornerstone was laid. Construction works started in the spring of 1886, and the tower was officially opened on July 18, 1886. The building was 20 m high, of which 2 m was on a stone base. Construction costs amounted to 4,576.69 marks. In the following years the tower was repaired many times. On May 24, 1904, decayed stairs broke under two tourists from Wrocław. The dangerous building was closed and demolished in the autumn of 1904. The initiator of the construction of the new tower was the president of the Dzierzoniow Society of Sowiogórski Richard Tamm, who pushed through the idea of erecting a durable structure. Chancellor Otto von Bismarck was to become the patron of the stone building. The bricklayer Hennig from Walim won the competition for the tower design. Building permission was obtained from Count Anton Franz von Magnis from Bożków. Later, however, the location was changed to part of the summit belonging to Count Ernst Julius von Seidlitz-Sandreczka from Bielawa. He also agreed to the investment. The foundation stone was laid on June 1, 1905. The execution was entrusted to Bestänier & George from Leipzig specializing in the construction of tall buildings. The ceremonial opening took place on May 24, 1906. The tower, officially located in Dzierżoniów (Bismarckturm bei Reichenbach), was 25 m high. On the ground floor there was a memorial hall with a Bismarck bust made by sculptor Harro Magnussen. Its three windows were stained glass with motifs reminiscent of the iron chancellor. Construction costs amounted to around 20,000 marks. In 1910, a bronze plaque in honor of Richard Tamma, who had died a year earlier, was placed in the tower. Admission to the tower was paid. A guardian of the building called der alte Stephan or Vater Spitzer was employed. He worked at least until 1931, when he was 73 years old. After World War II, the tower was named after General Władysław Sikorski, and then around 1980 by Mieczysław Orłowicz. Both names did not catch on. In 2006, the renovation of the building was completed, which cost PLN 250,000. The tower is an excellent vantage point, from which a panorama of the vast areas of the Sowie Mountains Landscape Park extends.
