Address: ul. Piastów Śląskich 1 , 58-306 Wałbrzych

It is the largest castle in Lower Silesia and one of the largest in Poland and Europe. It was built on a steep rocky promontory, at an altitude of 395 m above sea level. It is surrounded by a deep valley covered with forest. He was once called the "pearl of Silesia" and also "a fairy tale castle." Located within the Książ Landscape Park, it is a building with over 400 rooms, characterized by various architectural styles. It was built in the years 1288-1292 by the prince of Świdnica-Jawor Bolko I Sur. After the reign of Piast princes, the castle passed into the hands of the Czech monarchs, then it became knightly property. As a result of the Hussite wars in Silesia, it was partially destroyed and became a hideout of knights - robbers, including the famous Herman Czettritz. In the years 1491-97, when the owner of the castle became King Władysław Jagiellończyk, the castle became the free hereditary property of their family until 1941. In the years 1618-48, during the 30-year war, Książ was destroyed several times. After the war, the castle was rebuilt several times. The greatest changes were made by Konrad Ernst Maksymilian von Hochberg, transforming the medieval headquarters into a baroque residence. The greatest figure in the history of the von Hochberg family was undoubtedly Hans Heinrich XI, who held a number of offices and dignities in his life. His successor was Hans Heinrich XV, whose wife was the duchess "Daisy". During their reign, the castle changed its appearance for the last time. In 1941, Książ was confiscated by the Nazis and became the seat of the paramilitary organization "Todt". During this time, the castle interiors underwent considerable devastation, the interior of the splendid residence was turned into a block in the Nazi style. Under the castle and the courtyard, works were carried out, as a result of which, at a depth of about 50 m, powerful tunnels were carved out, which allowed trucks to move freely. Ksiaz Castle is a very interesting place. It has been surrounded by an atmosphere of sensations and puzzles for many years. At the basement level of the great residence, there are rooms that no one has reached after the war. Treasure hunters have been arguing for years about the purpose and size of the underground. Some say that the archives of the Reich Main Security Office, data on the operations of German secret services, spy nets, and traitors may have been hidden under the castle. Others believe that one of the tunnels has a train filled with civilian deposits. There are also researchers who claim that in the basement of Książ there is a laboratory in which Hubertus Strughold, a German scientist who created the foundations of space medicine in the United States after the war, conducted rocket flight experiments. The cemented underground of the castle has approx. 3200 m2 of area. Their fragment, as a tourist attraction, is open to the public. Part of it houses the Seismological Station of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Currently, the Książ Castle is the property of the Wałbrzych commune, which established the "Zamek Książ" Sp. z o.o., which manages the facility to this day.
